Where has the time gone

Its certainly been a quick Summer
Where has the Summer went. In the blink of an eye it has been and gone and the mornings are starting to get just a little bit chillier....
Leaves are starting to change colour or fall of the trees and the insects and mammals at the allotments are already starting to get prepared for the change in seasons.
This is a great time of year to start winding down from all the activity and food growing that took place in the exceptionally good weather we had during the summer.
.
We had winners and losers this year as always with potatoes, onions and brassica not doing so well with the dry weather and never ending bombardment of cabbage butterflies and their every hungry caterpillars making short work of cabbage, cauliflowers and just about everything else they could get their teeth into.
But on the other hand we had a great crop of apples, pears, strawberries, carrots, pumpkins, beetroot, redcurrants, gooseberries and tomatoes and Brussel sprouts, even if they are a few months early.
Our pond also did exceptionally well with lots of little frogs seen hopping about in our wildlife garden, busily looking for somewhere to spend the winter.
All in all a challenging and productive year......
